MOVIE lovers can now enjoy the latest movies with the opening of the 10-screen Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) multiplex in Aman Central, Alor Setar, the largest shopping mall in Kedah.

Spanning across 3,716sq m (40,000sq ft) on the fourth floor, the cinema is touted as the largest in Kedah, offering more than 1,500 seats over 10 halls.

The cinema, built at a cost of RM30.5mil, also marked GSC’s fifth and final new cinema this year after openings at NU Sentral, Ipoh Parade, IOI City Mall Putrajaya and Klang Parade.

GSC Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Koh Mei Lee said movie fans need not travel far to other GSC cinemas in Sungai Petani or Penang to enjoy an immersive movie outing.

“We are honoured to bring to movie fans in Kedah and the southern part of Thailand, GSC’s total movie experience which is well known by movie goers in our Klang Valley cinemas.

“One of the key unique features in GSC Aman Central is the first ever THX-certified and Dolby Atmos multi-dimensional 3D audio technology cinema in Kedah,” she said in her speech at the launch yesterday.

Koh added that GSC’s expansion plan would continue next year with the opening of a 10-screen multiplex at the Selayang Star City Mall in Kuala Lumpur.

“Most importantly, alongside investments in new cinemas and new cinematic technologies, GSC promises to offer value for money ticket pricing for the ultimate cinematic experience.

“With this latest addition, GSC now has a total of 302 screens in 33 locations nationwide,” she said.

Also present were Aman Central owner Datuk Sonny Ho, the managing director of Belleview Group which built the mall, and GSC general manager Irving Chee.

To celebrate GSC Aman Central’s opening, the cinema will be giving out freebies besides fun activities such as balloon give-aways and a clown appearance.

The Star readers who present this article can redeem two complimentary tickets per clipping for The Last Witch Hunter.

Readers can redeem the tickets at the ticketing counter from 4pm tomorrow on a first-come-first-served basis to watch the movie at 8.30pm.

Each person is only allowed to redeem four tickets with two article clippings.

Free Minute Maid Orange and Tropical Juice will also be given out with every GSC Combo 1 purchased at GSC concession counters (while stocks last).
